3d- printing is likely to revolutionize the manufacturing industry, automated mass production with cost-efficient method, it is a disruptive technology that is going to have huge impact on manufacturing and retail industry , huge job loss is highly likely. But eventually, 3D printing creates growth for economy and more jobs and opportunities are created.



Disadvantages of 3D printing

Trade mark issues: 
Development of 3D printing could cause copyright and trademark issues. Because It makes it more accessible and easier to copy or produce the exact product of almost anything and according to Gartner’s 2014 prediction, IT states that 3D printing will cost intellectural property loss of 100 billion per year.

Environmentally harmful:

3d printing uses a large amount of energy and another setback would be the heavy reliance of the plastic during the process. This is considered as a drawback because it violates CSR, Corporate social responsibility. A business manager will have to take into account the effect on the brand equity as having environmentally harmful production methods will lower the brand equity of the company.

Early development stage:

Since 3D-printing is at its early stage of development, there are significant limitations, right now 3D printing are limited to plastic and some metals. 3D printing is difficult to intergrate into a company’s business process. Most company like apple and nike for example, they have to give up the well-established business process and start fresh. Which requires a lot of investment and strategic and managerial decision making.
